This post is going to be short but sweet. You see, in just a few hours, I will be seeing G-Dragon, TOP, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri perform live yet again. It’s the second time I’m seeing them, after their ALIVE Tour in Manila a couple of years back, and the moment I heard their MADE tour is going to have a Manila leg, it was a no-brainer. I had to go. Sometimes, you have to feed the fangirl in you. You know, to make sure she stays fun. (Haha!) But that’s not what this post’s all about. This is about our short sojourn at Lake Aguingay, which was pretty close to our campsite. (Check out Part 1 of this vulcaneering adventure here.)
(Disclaimer: All photos are mine unless otherwise indicated on the pics.)
It was still 4pm, and before we started setting up camp, our guide suggested that we check out Lake Aguingay nearby. And so we did.
It was a bit of a walk past tall grasses, then an open, sandy space, with the summit of Mt. Bulusan looming over us the whole time.
Lake Aguingay, or Aguingay Lake, is one of the three lakes found within the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (the other two are the Bulusan Lake and the Crater Lake). On rainy days, it is quite large; some even say it is larger than the Bulusan Lake. It floods the whole space, even the area we walked on, and eventually looks like a huge lake at the foot of the crater summit.
It was still summer when we went, so water at the lake wasn’t as abundant. Still, from what we’ve seen, it easily looked like a lake should. And, yes, it was pretty.
Later readings would soon tell me that the lake was named after Aguingay, a beautiful lass who also happens to be the daughter of the tribal head. Legend has it that she was betrothed to a great warrior, who was later known as Bulusan. Before their wedding, a giant bird called “Mampak” attacked the town, killing hundreds. Another tribe leader, Casiguran, killed the bird and claimed Aguingay as his reward. A battle ensued between Bulusan and Casiguran, where the latter was defeated and was driven back to his town.
It sounded quite an epic tale, following the married life of the two. It’s entitled Si Bulusan nan Si Aguingay.
After taking pictures and soaking in the relaxing scenery in the middle of the Lake, we went back to the campsite to finally set up camp.
It was followed by a cookout for dinner, and the play of colors against the evening sky was quite something to behold.
We went to sleep, all excited for the early day ahead, where we will finally make the assault to the crater. Little did we know that we were in for one adventure that we will never EVER forget.
