Ziplining at Lignon Nature Park in Legazpi City, Albay

The answer to “where can you get the best view of Mt. Mayon in Legazpi?” is debatable, considering how the volcano with the perfect cone shape can be seen wherever you are in Legazpi, and its neighboring towns. But you get a bonus if you head up to the Lignon Hill Nature Park. I’d say several bonuses, actually. Aside from Mt. Mayon, you’d get a panoramic 360-degree view of Legazpi City, the town of Daraga, and Albay Gulf in the distance. Oh, and you can also try out their zipline.

Zipriding at the Delta Discovery Park in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte

I bumped into an acquaintance a few days ago, and she saw some of my recent posts on Facebook about my zipriding adventures at Mapawa Nature Park and Dahilayan Adventure Park. She asked me, “…weren’t you scared?” I answered honestly: “Terrified. But my excitement won out.” I mean, imagine zipriding 1.3 kilometersContinue reading “Zipriding at the Delta Discovery Park in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte”

Ziplining at ZipZone in Bukidnon’s Dahilayan Adventure Park

This is the second part of my re-telling of my love affair with ziplines. Granted, it has partially fizzled out by now, although I wouldn’t say no if I get another opportunity. In my previous post, I talked about the first time that I tried zipping down a line. A couple of days later, I got to do it again and, this time, at ZipZone, which was the longest dual zipline in Asia (at that time, at least).

My First Zipline Experience… at Mapawa Nature Park, Cagayan de Oro

Growing up, I never fancied myself to be the active kind. I was not even into sports, except those times when it’s part of PhysEd and I have to do it or else I’ll flunk my class. It was only later in life, when I learned to appreciate nature and the great outdoors, that I took that proverbial leap and started to take on new things in ‘uncharted territories’, so to speak. One of them was zipping down a line or, as they call it, ziplining. And my first time was on the first ever zipline course in Mindanao.

SoKor 2015: Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do (Pt 2)

Welcome to the 2nd installment of my series of posts on my visit to the Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do. Yes, it’s a series, because there’s just so many things to see and do in this living museum to fit in a single post. In the first post, we officially entered the Village, and walked around key places, such as the Farmers’ Houses and the Nobleman’s Mansion. This time, we’ll explore more of this vast Village.

SoKor 2015: Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do (Pt 1)

Be transported to the Joseon dynasty, and get more than a glimpse of how the people back then used to live. Walk through their village streets, peer into their houses, touch their day-to-day tools and implements. And no, you’re not sitting in front of your computer watching a sageuk drama with costumed actors. You’re at the Korean Folk Village in Yongin City.

Kyoto, Japan 2014: Maruyama Kouen

This was not really a part of the itinerary. In fact, we weren’t even aware of it. But walking around and following paths aimlessly always leads somewhere, and Maruyama Kouen was where we found ourselves in when we followed a road leading to the back of Yasaka Shrine. And, yes, we were just looking for a place to have a leisurely walk in (and by that, I mean LESS CROWD) while dressed in traditional kimono. Haha!

Feeding Giraffes at the Calauit Safari Park

I did mention in my previous post that I fell head over heels in love with giraffes when we went to the Calauit Safari Park, didn’t I? I wasn’t kidding when I said that. It was a complete turnaround because, as fascinated as I was by these long-necked and long-legged creatures, I was afraid of getting close. Before the end of this morning, I couldn’t keep from touching them and even having them nuzzle my face. It’s love, I tell ya.  Continue reading “Feeding Giraffes at the Calauit Safari Park”

Coron 2015: Calauit Safari Park

Oppressive. That’s the word that comes to mind to describe this heat. Here in Baguio, it gets as hot as 23 degrees Celsius in the middle of the day, and I’m sweating buckets. I can only imagine what it’s like in other places. It must be scorching! I guess it can’t be helped; it’s summer, after all. So let me blog about something summer-y? And nothing’s more fitting than Coron, and the day I fell head over heels in love with giraffes at the Calauit Safari Park. Continue reading “Coron 2015: Calauit Safari Park”

Kyoto, Japan 2014: Kyoto Gyoen National Garden

Due to an unexpected visit of the Imperial family, I was not able to enter the Tokyo Imperial Palace when I was in Tokyo, so I made a mental note to myself that “you must check out the Kyoto Imperial Palace, then!” when I got to Kyoto the week after. I thought, going in, that I can just enter and see the Kyoto Imperial Palace immediately. It turns out to be just a small part of a larger area, which is the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden.

Osaka, Japan 2014: Osaka Castle Park

I’ve always thought that taking walks in a park is possibly one of the more boring ways to spend time. In short, it’s a waste of time. Until recently, when I realized that it could be one of the most relaxing things one can do. A sign of old age? Or just enlightenment coming in a bit late? But then again, perhaps it has a lot to do with the kind of park you’re going to walk around in. Osaka Castle Park, or what little we’ve seen of it in the hour that we were able to walk around it, for example, would be one place where the word “boring” would never have a place in.
