Dining out was never really my thing, but I suppose being adventurous about food comes with age, at least in my case. And it helps that I am surrounded by people who are willing to try new things and new places. And it helps that there seems to be no shortage of places to eat in Baguio City and La Trinidad. If I were to be serious about blogging about food, I’d definitely suck at it. I’m too un-picky about food, and am easily satisfied so being a food critique is out. Also, I’m not really the type to eat out often, or venture somewhere out of the way to check out a new place to eat, at least not on my own or purposefully so. I was going through my phone and was amazed at how 98% of all the photos I took with it were of food. (I know the reason for that. I haven’t gone out exploring much during the past 3 months, except for eating ‘out’, which explains the kind of ‘variety’ on my phone’s Camera Roll.) The first time I saw construction work starting on this building right across the street to where I work, my curiosity got piqued when I saw the sign saying “Naruto”. I thought an anime-themed store is going to open real soon, and that it was such a weird location for one.
(UPDATE as of June 2018, Naruto Japanese Restaurant in this location is already closed.)
Another #BaguioEats post on this day, September 1, the 107th Charter Anniversary of Baguio City. A gloomy, rainy birthday, but a birthday still, so Happy 107th, Baguio! I’m going to talk a bit about this out-of-the-way coffee place, one of the verryyyyyy many coffee places that sprung in Baguio City in the past couple of years: The Coffee Library.
The downside of having foul and gloomy weather for more than a couple of weeks now is that, instead of going outside enjoying the great outdoors, we stay cooped up inside, with food. Eating, pigging out, then wanting more, and then wishing you could eat something. Alas, you can’t, because it means going out into all that rain. So, you end up just thinking about it. Like I did, when I remembered some of the food that we enjoyed during our trip to Seoul.
Time for another foodie post. I’m not really the type to eat out a lot, and those few times I do, I spend more time eating than actually paying attention on whether I can talk about it in my blog or not. Haha! But once in a while, I feel motivated. Just like now, as we visit another small place in La Trinidad, the town I live in. It’s called the Half Cup Cafe.
Prior to visiting BenCab Museum, I purposefully did not stuff myself full with food because I wanted to check out what they have to offer at Cafe Sabel. It was… quite an experience, to say the least. Love the coffee, though, and how it “kicked” me right up.
I’m starting this week right. And what could be more right than talk about food? Good food, at that. Great food, even. I’m talking about the group date my co-workers and I had at Amare La Cucina, one of the top restaurants in Baguio City.
It is when I am visiting new places that I wish I had more than one stomach. Because all that fooooodd….. when I can only ingest so much at one time~ Just like when we were at the Korean Folk Village and lunchtime came around. It would’ve been nice to have tried them all, but stomach (and budget) limitations did not allow it.

Another food-related post for the last day of October! Not sure if this’ll be the last I’ll talk of my Japan trip last year, but I figured this is a good way to wrap it up. Or something. Kyoto… ahhhh, Kyoto. Food was definitely the least of our concerns when we were in Kyoto, because there was just sooo much to see, and we just ate wherever we stumbled into. 🙂

Outside, the weather’s raging. Storm Signal No. 3 for Typhoon Lando is up where I live, and work and classes have been suspended for tomorrow. I love staying home, but not when it’s because the heavy winds and rains are keeping me prisoner. I hope everyone stays safe, and the weather gets better real soon. For now, however, I’m in the mood for some gastronomic remembrances, particularly those that I was able to take photos of when I was in Nagoya. If the most recent activity, in terms of traffic, in this blog is any indication, it looks like more than a few people will be flocking to Capisaan Caves in Nueva Vizcaya over the long weekend. And why not? It is definitely a must-see, and I actually envy those who will be able to as I, too, wouldn’t mind going back sometime in the future. The Japanese love to drink, and they love beer and spirits. You cannot help but come to this conclusion when you see it done in most every jdorama you watch, or featured in many CFs and promotional material, or even when you are walking around from early evening until late at night in relatively crowded places and see ladies and gentlemen – still wearing their office attires and toting those business cases – stumbling out of well-lit establishments being all boisterous and, yes, drunk. After-work drinks are a norm, and it doesn’t even matter that it is the middle of the week and they have to go to work the next morning. Last November, after watching the CNBLUE concert, I, Peach, Jas and Slow finally felt hunger pangs and decided to look for a place to eat. We found ourselves wandering around Sakae, in the area filled with many drinking places or, as they call it, izakayas.

Who, in their right mind, would want to “swing by” Sagada, just to eat? Us, apparently, and yes, we are in our right minds. We figured it’s a shame that we haven’t tried some of the now-famous places to eat in Sagada when it is, technically, our neighbor.
