El Nido has the Big Lagoon and the Small Lagoon. Coron, on the other hand, has the Twin Lagoons. Coron also happens to be where you can find the cleanest lake in the country. Personally, Kayangan Lake is the place I look most forward to revisiting next week. Continue reading “Coron in August: Twin Lagoon & Kayangan Lake”
Coron in August: Siete Pecados & Dicantuman
In just a couple of days, Baguio will once again be more crowded than ever, (no) thanks to the Panagbenga, or the annual Flower Festival. Fact: more than half of the Baguio population leave the city when the tourists descend. I call it the “displacement method” at work. I will be one of the displaced ones, heading off to beautiful Coron. Continue reading “Coron in August: Siete Pecados & Dicantuman”
Coron in August: Lusong Shipwreck & Marile Coral Garden
If there is one thing that is sure to ruin even the best laid plans, it’s rain. However, if you are in a place as sublime in its beauty as Coron, the raindrops hardly matter. (I am writing this post as I am listening to news about the magnitude 4 quake that rocked my world – and I don’t say that lightly – this morning as I was headed for work. It lasted for a couple of seconds, but darn if it didn’t make my heart jump out my throat!) Continue reading “Coron in August: Lusong Shipwreck & Marile Coral Garden”
Coron in August: Mt. Tapyas and Maquinit Hotspring
Taking a quick break from my Japan posts to talk about this trip to beautiful Coron with my awesome girlfriends at work (hey that’s rare, working with people you actually like! Haha!) several months ago. More than several, actually, because as you will see from the photos, this trip was BEFORE Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) struck the area and wrought destruction. Continue reading “Coron in August: Mt. Tapyas and Maquinit Hotspring”
Bohol: Panglao Island
Seeing a couple of blog posts about beautiful Batanes in the past couple of days has reawakened my desire to see it to a once-again burning flame. For now, a number of factors are still making it elusive. Still, I aim to be able to step foot on it, somehow, some way, some time in the future. When I do, I will be able to cross out another one from my growing mental list of places to see before I die. Panglao Island, though… I must admit it was never on that list. South Korea Pt. 22: Midday at Taejongdae in Busan
A warm hello from cold Osaka!! *waves* We’ll be leaving today for Kyoto, wish we could’ve stayed longer in this bustling city, but the pull of Edo aka “old” Japan is much stronger, so off to Kyoto we go~! For now, though, I am making my second to the last post about my SoKor adventure, which you can check out here. This time, straight from Yoggungsa, we took more than an hour bus-and-train ride to Taejongdae. Continue reading “South Korea Pt. 22: Midday at Taejongdae in Busan”
South Korea Pt 19: Chill Time at Haedong Yonggungsa, Busan
Bright and waaaay early, we woke up so we can cram as much as we can on our last day in “dynamic” Busan. After getting directions for the hotel concierge, we took a not-so-short walk to the bus stop and took a bus to our first destination for the day: the Haedong Yonggungsa or the Haedong Yonggung Temple.

South Korea Pt 18: Sun & Fun in Haeundae Beach, Busan
In honor of CNBLUE, a band that is closely identified with Busan, I am picking up what is remaining of my South Korea travel posts.
Busan is the second-largest metropolis in South Korea, second only to Seoul. However, when it comes to land area, Busan trumps Seoul, having a land area of 767.35 sq km to the capital city’s 605.21. Anyway, my point is… it’s huge, and we only had a couple of days, tops, to spend on it. It is yet another injustice that I hope to rectify in the future. God (and budget) willing.

(Non) Summer in Boracay 4: "Eveningscapes"
(Well, I did say this week is close to being one of those “Hell Weeks”, didn’t I. And it’s going to be the same next week, too. Oh, joy. #DifficultiesOfBeingAnAdult)
I was looking for a fitting way to wrap up this series of Boracay-in-August posts, and what better way than to take a look at it in the evening? Continue reading “(Non) Summer in Boracay 4: "Eveningscapes"”
(Non) Summer in Boracay 3: Crystal Cove
Next to April-March, August-September is the second-busiest couple of months for me because it’s that time of the year when I’ve to draw up the Budget Proposal of our Department for the next Budget Year. It’s exhausting work and, piled on top of my regular (and irregular) functions, it spells out “Hell Weeks” for me.
I cannot wait until August 20 comes (so I can get a reprieve by catching Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno in the cinema) and September 19 finally rolls around so I can watch CNBLUE in concert. Simple joys, really.
On a day tour or island-hopping gig in Boracay, one of the major pit stops is Crystal Cove.

(Non) Summer in Boracay 2: "Afternoonscape"
When you find yourself in a tropical island, it’s a crime to NOT get in the water. If there are smaller islands about, the most logical activity to do would be to go island-hopping. And that’s exactly what we did. Continue reading “(Non) Summer in Boracay 2: "Afternoonscape"”
(Non) Summer in Boracay 1: "Morning-scape"
You say “Philippines”, and “beaches” won’t be far behind. And when you lump the two words together, what’s the most common name that comes to mind? Yes. Boracay.
This is another one of those “major throwback” posts which I am blogging about because (1) I had three of the awesomest fangirlfriends for company; (2) I wish it’ll happen again (post-Yale, Jane?); (3) Hey, it IS Boracay; and (4) this is where I discovered that humans and lobsters are separated by merely a few hours in the sun (sans sunblock); and (5) it was HELLA. FUN.
