Happy Easter, everyone! How did you spend the past few days? Did you stay at home? Go out of town? Went on a Bisita Iglesia? No matter how you spent the past week – whether you lived it up or laid low – I suppose the important thing is that we did not forget what the week was all about, and we did not forget to thank Him for making the ultimate sacrifice for us. “Thank you” is rarely being said now, is that something we should allow?
After several days of silence from this blog, I am wrapping up my blog series on our Honda Bay tour. Our final stop was for late lunch at Cowrie Island.
Cowrie Island is supposedly named after a type of mollusk, the cowrie. It is a privately-owned island opened to tourists as a pit stop… and it also has cabanas for those who want to stay longer. Some of the attractions include an area for various water fun games/sports, such as riding a banana boat, playing frisbee and beach volleyball, and snorkeling in another separate spot. It also has a place for massages and for anyone who wants to shower.
We docked at an area close by a wooden ship that was lying on its side. Our guide said it’s an old pirate ship that was abandoned and washed into the island… Those with more active imaginations (like me) started picturing a mutiny staged over… corals. Unless there’s gold around here~~~
Personally, I thought it added a bit of a romance to the otherwise commercialized atmosphere of the island.
The place was clearly prepped for the visit of visitors. The large green-roofed structure is the Pavilion, where people can just sit down and hang out.
What makes it another popular stop for those touring Honda Bay, however, is its restaurant that offers a buffet meal for Php200.00 per person. It was already part of the package fee we paid, so all we did was line up and get our food.
And it was a delicious treat! We even shamelessly went back for seconds…. and thirds… 🙂
After our hearty lunch (and some rest from the food coma), we proceeded to the swimming area to fool around a little (okay, fool around a lot.) Our guides even set up these sand sculpture thingies to do some trick shots. That automatically reversed our ages, and we became kids again!
We planned on going on the banana boat, but there was a queue, and we were, like, sixth in line. The weather started acting up, with threats of rain, so we gave it up altogether.
Before we left Cowrie Island, though, rain poured, so we waited for around 30 minutes for it to stop before we boarded our boat and headed back to the Wharf.
Barring the rain, it was a fun day! If you happen to have a free day when you’re in Puerto Princesa and you want to go into the water, add a Honda Bay Tour to your itinerary!
