The downside of having foul and gloomy weather for more than a couple of weeks now is that, instead of going outside enjoying the great outdoors, we stay cooped up inside, with food. Eating, pigging out, then wanting more, and then wishing you could eat something. Alas, you can’t, because it means going out into all that rain. So, you end up just thinking about it. Like I did, when I remembered some of the food that we enjoyed during our trip to Seoul.
odysSTAY: Namsan Guesthouse in Myeongdong, Seoul, South Korea
On both visits to Seoul, I stayed in the same area: Myeongdong. Why? Because I felt it was the most convenient for my itinerary. The first trip was planned by my friend Peach, so I had no hand in it, but on my next trip, I saw no reason why I shouldn’t find a place to stay in the area. And I picked Namsan Guesthouse.

La Trinidad Eats: Half Cup Cafe
Time for another foodie post. I’m not really the type to eat out a lot, and those few times I do, I spend more time eating than actually paying attention on whether I can talk about it in my blog or not. Haha! But once in a while, I feel motivated. Just like now, as we visit another small place in La Trinidad, the town I live in. It’s called the Half Cup Cafe.
BenCab Museum: Cafe Sabel
Prior to visiting BenCab Museum, I purposefully did not stuff myself full with food because I wanted to check out what they have to offer at Cafe Sabel. It was… quite an experience, to say the least. Love the coffee, though, and how it “kicked” me right up.
Baguio Eats: Amare La Cucina
I’m starting this week right. And what could be more right than talk about food? Good food, at that. Great food, even. I’m talking about the group date my co-workers and I had at Amare La Cucina, one of the top restaurants in Baguio City.
Korean Lunch @ KFV: Seollangtang, Naengmyeon & Kimchijeon
It is when I am visiting new places that I wish I had more than one stomach. Because all that fooooodd….. when I can only ingest so much at one time~ Just like when we were at the Korean Folk Village and lunchtime came around. It would’ve been nice to have tried them all, but stomach (and budget) limitations did not allow it.

JapanEats: Food-trippin’ in Kyoto
Another food-related post for the last day of October! Not sure if this’ll be the last I’ll talk of my Japan trip last year, but I figured this is a good way to wrap it up. Or something. Kyoto… ahhhh, Kyoto. Food was definitely the least of our concerns when we were in Kyoto, because there was just sooo much to see, and we just ate wherever we stumbled into. 🙂

JapanEats: Food-trippin’ in Nagoya
Outside, the weather’s raging. Storm Signal No. 3 for Typhoon Lando is up where I live, and work and classes have been suspended for tomorrow. I love staying home, but not when it’s because the heavy winds and rains are keeping me prisoner. I hope everyone stays safe, and the weather gets better real soon. For now, however, I’m in the mood for some gastronomic remembrances, particularly those that I was able to take photos of when I was in Nagoya. So, tighten your belts, remember your diet, and read on. Continue reading “JapanEats: Food-trippin’ in Nagoya”
Baguio Eats: Tanapew Cafe (updated 01.03.16)
If the most recent activity, in terms of traffic, in this blog is any indication, it looks like more than a few people will be flocking to Capisaan Caves in Nueva Vizcaya over the long weekend. And why not? It is definitely a must-see, and I actually envy those who will be able to as I, too, wouldn’t mind going back sometime in the future. To those who are going, I hope my post about my visit to the place was able to convince you to check it out for yourself. Oh, and let me know what you thought of it, aiight?

Nagoya, Japan 2014: The Izakaya Experience
The Japanese love to drink, and they love beer and spirits. You cannot help but come to this conclusion when you see it done in most every jdorama you watch, or featured in many CFs and promotional material, or even when you are walking around from early evening until late at night in relatively crowded places and see ladies and gentlemen – still wearing their office attires and toting those business cases – stumbling out of well-lit establishments being all boisterous and, yes, drunk. After-work drinks are a norm, and it doesn’t even matter that it is the middle of the week and they have to go to work the next morning. Last November, after watching the CNBLUE concert, I, Peach, Jas and Slow finally felt hunger pangs and decided to look for a place to eat. We found ourselves wandering around Sakae, in the area filled with many drinking places or, as they call it, izakayas.

Mornin’ Food-trippin’ in Sagada
Who, in their right mind, would want to “swing by” Sagada, just to eat? Us, apparently, and yes, we are in our right minds. We figured it’s a shame that we haven’t tried some of the now-famous places to eat in Sagada when it is, technically, our neighbor. Finally, we got to check out the Lemon Pie House and the Yoghurt House. Continue reading “Mornin’ Food-trippin’ in Sagada”
JapanEats: Okonomiyaki Kiraku (Kyoto)
Since our lunch-in-kimonos at Mimikou at around midday, Peach and I haven’t had a bite to eat, and we’ve been wandering all afternoon around Ginkaku-ji, then early evening in the Gion area (looking for a place to eat, incidentally), then bumping into Hazel, She and Jas, and heading off to Kiyomizudera instead. So it is a given that, by the time we parted ways at close to 9pm, the two of us were already starving. So we (yet again) did more walking through streets leading towards our hostel, looking for any open food place. At that moment, we were so hungry even a food stall will do. AND THEN. We came across Kiraku, which turns out to be one of the most recommended okonomiyaki places to eat in Kyoto. HUZZAH, cheered my empty tummy.

JapanEats: Nakau (Tennoji)
There is a downside to finding yourself with a little bit of free time on your hands: you don’t know what to do with it, and yet you can think of so many things you want to do but, for some reason, you can’t. So you end up doing what you did not really intend on doing. (Did that make sense so far?) Take right now, for example. Weather’s foul outside, I am in between writing projects, and there’s a bit of a window where I can opt to not work. So I clean up my hard drive, and stumble upon photos that I forgot existed. Like these ones taken of the fastfood/restaurant, NAKAU in Osaka. Continue reading “JapanEats: Nakau (Tennoji)”
JapanEats: Kyoto-Gion Mimikou
It felt like forever since I last made a food-related post, I’m feeling hungry. And I just finished watching all 17 episodes of tvN’s “Let’s Eat 2” which, I must say, has enough food porn to make me hungry every time I watch an episode. Darn all those Korean food; they all look sooooo sooooo good! I gotta make sure I taste some of them when I go to Seoul in a couple of months. 🙂 Until then, I’ll just have to flash back to some of the places we ate at when we were in Japan. This time, it’s this small, nondescript place in Gion, MIMIKOU. Continue reading “JapanEats: Kyoto-Gion Mimikou”
OdysStay: Where to Stay in Batad and Bontoc
In every journey, pit and rest stops are a given, and I felt it only right to share some info about mine. I consider it my small way of providing something helpful and informative, as opposed to just talking about what I’ve seen and what I did. If that even makes sense. #odysSTAY will chronicle what I remember of the places that served as my shelter on my various adventures. For this post, I will be talking about the two places we stayed at during our “Plan B” road trip through Batad and Bontoc.
