Road Trip Up North: The Bangui Windmills of Ilocos Norte

Hello, friends, how have you been? It’s been exactly a month since my last update. The holidays have also come and gone. Quite a number of things happened, which was partly to blame for my month-long hiatus from this blog. Let me just sum it up in 4 words: holidays, rest, RSI and laryngitis. BUT! It’s a new year, so let’s leave them at that. Also, instead of starting anew, let’s just pick up where we left off, shall we? This time, I bring you to the next stop in our road trip up north, to see to the famous Bangui Windmills up close.

Road Trip Up North: Kapurpurawan Rock Formations in Burgos, Ilocos Norte

Next week is like a line-up of Christmas parties, luncheons and dinners – quite a long one that, for some, can be quite suffocating and burdensome. In fact, these festive gatherings kinda started for me during the last week of December. I think that explains why, only halfway through the Christmas month, I already feel Christmaxed out. XDD

Road Trip Up North: Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur

Vigan has always been one of those places that spring up to mind when talking about road trips up north. Probably the other equally favored one is a road trip to Sagada. But I digress. My co-workers and I took advantage of a long weekend to go on this road trip to Ilocos, just to take a break from the usual grind at work and, for some, to take advantage of the school break. Of course, any road trip up north would not be complete without spending time at the famed city of Vigan. Specifically, its Calle Crisologo.

La Trinidad Eats: Kafe Gipas

Wow. It’s been quite a while since my last post. November was pretty packed, you see. First, there was the Bontoc-Sagada trip, followed by an annual convention at PICC, with days of work in between. And, afterwards, “mouse finger” happened. Seriously, though, I’d pick sore muscles and even aching legs over the pain on my right index finger ANY DANG DAY. Still recovering today, actually. Acupressure ball’s been my best bud lately. But enough of that, and let’s talk food!

Guimaras: Trappist Abbey & The Guisi Lighthouse (+ mangoes!!)

This wraps up my short jaunt in the island province of Guimaras. I know for sure that there are still a lot of places that are worth checking out, and I wish I could have gone to all of them. But if you have limited time, then you’d have to make do with what little you have, and be grateful, right? Maybe I’ll go back someday, maybe not. Who knows. But I do know this was a visit worth remembering, short though it was. Now, let’s go to the Trappist Abbey and the Guisi Lighthouse, shall we? October 2017 FoodVentures: Beans Talk, Kobe Cafe, Zax’s Chicken & Waffles, Kafe Gipas

October has come and gone. Another month more and it’ll be time for feasting and binge-ing on all those Christmas treats.  Part of me looks forward to how the spread would look like, although I dread potential difficulties in fitting into my work uniform, haha! But, let’s not worry about that yet, shall we? For the month of October, I’m bringing you to four places to eat in Baguio City and La Trinidad.

Iloilo: Garin Farm aka “Stairway to Heaven”

Weeks before our scheduled trip to Iloilo City, we were looking for the places to visit while there, and many searches resulted to “Stairway to Heaven” mentions. Curiosity got the best of us, so on one free morning, we decided to include it in our day tour itinerary. The Stairway to Heaven is actually found at the Garin Farm, just outside of Iloilo City.

Islas de Gigantes: Adios… but first, Buenavista Island (and some travel tips!)

I bet by this time, most people have already gone on vacation for All Saints’ and Souls’ Day. Just here to drop a quick post about my last few hours at the beautiful Islas de Gigantes, featuring an island that was not originally in our itinerary, but since we were passing it on our way back to the mainland, we just had to stop: it’s the Buenavista Island.

La Trinidad Eats: The Loft (J’s Loft) Restobar

Whenever I do my daily commute to and from work, I am usually engrossed watching or reading something on my phone, I am barely aware of what’s happening. Well, except for lifting my head from time to time to check where I am, and making mental calculations how many more minutes I’d need to be on the road before I make it on time for work. So I was not aware at first about the existence of this restobar at Km. 5. It wasn’t until several months ago that I heard of it, and just a couple of months ago that I finally got to personally check it out. It’s called The LOFT Restobar.

Islas de Gigantes: Antonia Island (+ Tinagong Dagat)

If you’re on an island or a beach, especially after spending whole year round amid the hustle and bustle of urban life, then you’d probably think the quiet and stillness, with the sun, sea and sky as backdrop, would be more than enough to occupy you. But sometimes, you’d probably look for something to do, other than lie down on the sand, that is. At Islas de Gigantes, you’d find a lot of things to do at Antonia Beach.

Time for RECESS Resto/Cafe

It appears that new restaurants, coffee shops or food kiosks/stalls spring up around Baguio City, and the central business district (CBD) area is not an exception. Every time I find myself walking up or down Session Road, I only have to lift my gaze up and see a new sign advertising the fact. On one of those walks, I spotted a sign that said RECESS, and so I made it a point to check it out, by myself at first, then with company the next couple of times.
