I am well aware of the not-so-good connotation that the world “fangirl” brings to many people. And I don’t blame them. That does not mean, however, that I will completely wash my hands clean of the name. I won’t. I am a fangirl, and I realized that one way to show how much I embrace that identity is by starting a ‘FANgirl friday’ series of posts on this blog. And what better way to start things off on an official footing, than with a post related to my most cherished fandom? Let me talk about the time I watched a movie in Japan, and it so happened to be “Miracle“, which starred Aiba, 1/5 of my favorite group of all time, Arashi.
Nagoya, Japan 2014: Nagoya Castle’s Hommaru Palace
As things are starting to wind down for the year and we are about to enter the last quarter of 2015, so are my posts on my trip to Japan last year. I cannot believe it’s almost a year since I was traipsing around the “Land of the Rising Sun”.

Nagoya, Japan 2014: To The Nagoya Castle
There are probably two ways to spend a holiday: rest or sightsee. For me, I prefer the latter. So, upon arrival at around 1pm in Nagoya via shinkansen from Kyoto, we immediately checked in at BestWestern Hotel Nagoya in Sakae, freshened up a bit (or tried to), and immediately proceeded to pay a visit to Nagoya Castle before heading to the Arashi concert later that evening (I talked about the Digitalian concert in this post.

Baguio Eats: Tanapew Cafe (updated 01.03.16)
If the most recent activity, in terms of traffic, in this blog is any indication, it looks like more than a few people will be flocking to Capisaan Caves in Nueva Vizcaya over the long weekend. And why not? It is definitely a must-see, and I actually envy those who will be able to as I, too, wouldn’t mind going back sometime in the future. To those who are going, I hope my post about my visit to the place was able to convince you to check it out for yourself. Oh, and let me know what you thought of it, aiight?

Nagoya, Japan 2014: The Izakaya Experience
The Japanese love to drink, and they love beer and spirits. You cannot help but come to this conclusion when you see it done in most every jdorama you watch, or featured in many CFs and promotional material, or even when you are walking around from early evening until late at night in relatively crowded places and see ladies and gentlemen – still wearing their office attires and toting those business cases – stumbling out of well-lit establishments being all boisterous and, yes, drunk. After-work drinks are a norm, and it doesn’t even matter that it is the middle of the week and they have to go to work the next morning. Last November, after watching the CNBLUE concert, I, Peach, Jas and Slow finally felt hunger pangs and decided to look for a place to eat. We found ourselves wandering around Sakae, in the area filled with many drinking places or, as they call it, izakayas.

Mornin’ Food-trippin’ in Sagada
Who, in their right mind, would want to “swing by” Sagada, just to eat? Us, apparently, and yes, we are in our right minds. We figured it’s a shame that we haven’t tried some of the now-famous places to eat in Sagada when it is, technically, our neighbor. Finally, we got to check out the Lemon Pie House and the Yoghurt House. Continue reading “Mornin’ Food-trippin’ in Sagada”
Japan 2014: Mata ne, Kyoto!
It’s time to wrap up my blogging spree on the glorious city that is Kyoto. It’s also an excuse to take a break from going through the tons of photos I took from my recent trip to South Korea. 🙂 In a nutshell, Kyoto is one of those places that can frustrate you. Because you thought you saw a lot of it already, only to realize you haven’t even scratched the surface. I tell ya, that type of frustration is something that makes me wish I can hop on the next available flight and go there again.
JapanEats: Okonomiyaki Kiraku (Kyoto)
Since our lunch-in-kimonos at Mimikou at around midday, Peach and I haven’t had a bite to eat, and we’ve been wandering all afternoon around Ginkaku-ji, then early evening in the Gion area (looking for a place to eat, incidentally), then bumping into Hazel, She and Jas, and heading off to Kiyomizudera instead. So it is a given that, by the time we parted ways at close to 9pm, the two of us were already starving. So we (yet again) did more walking through streets leading towards our hostel, looking for any open food place. At that moment, we were so hungry even a food stall will do. AND THEN. We came across Kiraku, which turns out to be one of the most recommended okonomiyaki places to eat in Kyoto. HUZZAH, cheered my empty tummy.

Kyoto, Japan 2014: Fushimi Inari Taisha Pt 3
As much as I would like to say that “I am back”, I couldn’t, at least not entirely, since I think I left part of my soul (and heart, I kid you not) in South Korea. 5 and a half days are barely enough to get my fill of SoKor, and I hope to go back to explore more of it. I’ve soooo many stories (and photos!) to share, but I resolve not to do that until I have finished my Japan travel diaries. And this is the last in my three-parter on Fushimi Inari Taisha.

Kyoto, Japan 2014: Fushimi Inari Taisha Pt 2
I have a love-hate relationship with the month of August. Hate stems from the fact that it is the month where there are soooooo many deadlines. It’s bad enough that my line of work means I have deadlines to deal with on a monthly basis, but August just piles them right on. But I also love it because of a couple of long weekends, which means trips and travels. OH YES. But I’m getting ahead of myself. This post is all about the AH-MAAAAY-ZING Fushimi Inari Taisha, which I’d love to go back to in the future. Take a walk with me?

Kyoto, Japan 2014: Fushimi Inari Taisha Pt 1
And so we have come to my favorite among the many Kyoto attractions we visited during our short stopover in Japan’s old capital: the Fushimi Inari Taisha (Shrine). I loved it so much that I am devoting more than one post for it. Yes, because it turns out I took so many pictures, and I didn’t want them to go unshared! It’d be such a waste, don’t you agree?

Kyoto, Japan 2014: Ginkaku-ji
Back with another Kyoto post! (Yes, I resolve to finish my Japan series before the year ends, haha!) The last time we talked about my Japan trip was that time we went to check out the fall illumination at Kiyomizudera on the evening of the day we went around the Gion area wearing kimonos. So what happened on the afternoon in between? One word: Ginkaku-ji.

Vulcaneering at Mt. Bulusan Pt 3: The Blackbird Crater Lake
While others were partying it up a la LaBoracay, we were also partying it up a la Mt. Bulusan. We woke up at half past 3 because we wanted to start the summit assault (I think “crater assault” is the more apt term) early, with the goal of being at the summit to witness the sunrise. Well, that was the plan. Rain happened.

Big Bang MADE to Party in Manila!
We Like 2 Party. That’s the title of one of the most recent releases of Big Bang, and they proved the truth of that line. Granted, all VIPs (that’s what Big Bang fans are called) are already aware of what a powerhouse these five (or even separately as solo artists) are, but it feels soooo good to personally witness it unfold in front of our eyes. This whole 2+ hours’ concert was one epic party. Continue reading “Big Bang MADE to Party in Manila!”
Vulcaneering at Mt. Bulusan Pt 2: Lake Aguingay to Lights Out
This post is going to be short but sweet. You see, in just a few hours, I will be seeing G-Dragon, TOP, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri perform live yet again. It’s the second time I’m seeing them, after their ALIVE Tour in Manila a couple of years back, and the moment I heard their MADE tour is going to have a Manila leg, it was a no-brainer. I had to go. Sometimes, you have to feed the fangirl in you. You know, to make sure she stays fun. (Haha!) But that’s not what this post’s all about. This is about our short sojourn at Lake Aguingay, which was pretty close to our campsite. (Check out Part 1 of this vulcaneering adventure here.)
