SoKor 2015: Everland Rides – Working Our Way To The T-Express

Imagine this: you went to Boracay, but you never got your feet wet. You visited Osaka, but did not even taste takoyaki or okonomiyaki. You went to Sagada, but you did not check out any of the caves. You drove all the way to Baguio City… and never laid eyes on Burnham Park. See what I’m getting at? So I’m saying that you cannot go to Everland without going on any of the rides and, once you’ve worked up the courage, get on the T-Express, a wooden rollercoaster with one of the steepest drops in the world.

FF#5: YG & Big Bang Feels at Everland (a.k.a. K-Poppin’ at a Theme Park)

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. From a fangirl’s POV, we could spin that into “when in the land of K-pop, do as a K-pop fan does”. I know of many fans who purposely head over to places such as Cheongdam-dong and Apgujeong-dong to “nonchalantly stroll” past the entertainment agency buildings, hoping for a sighting of this or that idol. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), this was never high on my list of things to do. That does not preclude, however, my perking up when I hear a familiar K-pop tune playing on the street or a poster or a standee of a K-pop artist that I took a particular shine to. What can I say, once a fangirl, always a fangirl.

SoKor 2015: Best Time Ever… at Everland Resort

Amusement parks and theme parks used to be marketed to kids, tweens and teens (I blame Disney for that), then came the parks with scary-to-terrifying rides, and adults ceased feeling irrelevant. I haven’t been to many of these parks but, several months ago, I found myself in a place that I can – without any reservations – declare to be my favorite theme park. EVER. And it’s called EVERLAND (see what I did there?!?). And I had to go all the way to South Korea for it, and even further out of Seoul.

A Cave and Boulders at Tinipak River in Tanay, Rizal

A visit to Mt. Daraitan in Rizal will not be complete without swinging by Tinipak River. For day-hikers and overnighters, these two are a package deal. And it makes sense, too, because of the close proximity. If you go to one without going to the other, that is tantamount to having wasted your time. We did nothing of the sort, because after our speedy hike up and down Mt. Daraitan, we proceeded to Tinipak River, where we camped the night and had a caving and (mini) bouldering adventure the next day. SoKor 2015: Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

So who else, besides me, is none too pleased with this heat spell going on? I know it’s summer and all, but I am always positively sweating buckets, even when I’m standing still. Makes me long for the chill you can only feel atop mountains in the north. Before that, though, let me continue my SoKor series, picking up where I left off in my last post, when we decided to try to walk as far as we could along the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.

SoKor 2015: Hwaseong Fortress – Seojangdae (Western Command Post)

Post-election drama aside, it has been a lulzy week. I am currently fighting off sleepiness as I type this post, and it’s only midmorning (which does not bode well for the rest of the day, oh dear me). But the day is still young, so let me take this opportunity to take you to Hwaseong Fortress, a must-see (in my opinion) if you find yourself in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do anytime soon.

SoKor 2015: Hwaseong Haenggung in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do

It’s May! I just realized I’ve been away too long – both from this blog and from RL. The last 2 weeks of April have been crazy (the good kind of crazy, the amazing kind of crazy) as I moved from one hot city to another (check my IG feed). Right about now, I’m close to being toast – literally! It reminded me of another warm late afternoon spent exploring another beautiful place in South Korea. So for my first post this May, I will talk about that time I was able to walk around Hwaseong Haenggung, the “temporary palace” located in Suwon City, in the province of Gyeonggi.  Continue reading “SoKor 2015: Hwaseong Haenggung in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do”

Three People I Love Meeting On My Travels

One of the things I love about going on trips or traveling to new places is meeting new people. On my own, I am not the friendliest of people, in the sense that I would not be that person who, in a room filled with strangers, will take the initiative to strike up a conversation with the person next to me. In all likelihood, I am that person with earphones on, eyes trained on a book or on a show on my phone. That does not mean, however, that I do not like meeting people. I do. I just go about it a different way.  Continue reading “Three People I Love Meeting On My Travels”

Dicasalarin Cove of Baler, Aurora

Let me just take this moment to lament the summer season, at least in my part of the world. It rains often in the afternoons and nights, and gets windy in the morning. But it’s not entirely a bad thing because, really, I’d prefer this over scorching heat any darn time. That’s not to say that I completely shun heat and sunshine, though, which is why, in this post, I am harking back to a visit that I and my co-workers made to Dicasalarin Cove in Baler, Aurora, on one fine, sunny, scorching hot day.

Korean Folk Village Performances: Traditional Wedding Ceremony and Farmer’s Music & Dance

Yes, KFV, I’m not done with you yet, not by a long shot! So here I will share a bit about the several special performances that we were able to catch during our short visit to the Korean Folk Village in Yongin, South Korea. There were a total of four shows, and I am splitting them in two posts. For this one, it’s the Traditional Wedding Ceremony and the Farmer’s Music & Dance.
